MSA1000 Array Creation Times

I have a customer who has an MSA1000.

He reports that when he creates a new array it takes a lot of time to make it and is wondering if this is correct.

For a 3 drive array it will take from 20 to 25 hours, and for a 6 drive array it is around 60 hours.

If this is not the normal behavior what would you suggest that we check?

Re: MSA1000 Array Creation Times

Juan,

Does this happen with ACU or CLI?

If ACU, what is the version.

Re: MSA1000 Array Creation Times

It isn't the most recent but should work fine.

What is the
MSA FW ver.
HBA and driver ver.

Does the individual have a lot of I/O running on the MSA while doing the configuration.

Re: MSA1000 Array Creation Times

Juan,

The array is available for use while it is going through its background parity.
You should update your ACU to 7.16.9.0
Depending on the activity of the system, the raid level and number of drives.. it will take a while to go through the background parity. If they are in a clustered configuration, don't start cluster services until the background parity completes.

Re: MSA1000 Array Creation Times

By upgrading to the newer version of the ACU we are able to see the actual progress of the array creation. This helps us determine that everything is working ok.

Thanks to all that responded
