Re: MSA1500cs and MSA30
Thanks.
But another Question is: How many Disks (300GB SCSI) are maximum per Array for best Performance. Is there any Limitations or is more Disks per Array=More Performance in Raid 1+0 Configuration??
Example: It is Better one Array with 14 Disks across the shelfs or two Arrays with 7 Disks...

Re: MSA1500cs and MSA30
a)some details could be found here
http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1082647&admit=109447626+1221911235150+28353475
e.g. in Petes attachement
b) yes the more physical disk in an array, the more spindles in its logical volumes.
Though you have no physical isolation and in case of the serious HW failure you may loose the whole data
c) you can also "tune" the performance with the firmware upgrade from the active/passive (up to the firmware 5.20) (one conroller always only the failover standby) to the active/active, in which both controllers access the lun (the firmware 7.0)

Re: MSA1500cs and MSA30
given that i have 1xMSA1500cs and 2xMSA30 fully populated with 300GB Sata drives
3 arrays of 8 disks each spread over both MSA30 shelves thus utilising 2.28TB of storage, after raid 5 initialisation you get 2.00TB of storage which is a 12% loss. Overall this proved to be the most cost efficient use of the storage.
utilise another 2 disks in raid 0 for any particularly fast storage requirements and 2 disks as spares 1 for each shelf. 1 spare would be enough though.
I'm sure someone will come up with a better configuration but it seems to be working well here.

Re: MSA1500cs and MSA30
In each array i have 3 x 500GB logical drives with 500GB of spare space for logical drive extension.
:D have a nice day

Re: MSA1500cs and MSA30
I don't know if there are 300GB SATA disk drives available for this environment, but something does not match anyway:
- the MSA30 is a SCSI disk drive enclosure and
- the MSA20 is for SATA
