MSA2000, lun masking and MPIO on Windows 2008

Hi,
We have 2 servers with windows 2008, one hba, one san switch and one controller in the MSA2000. We have made 2 zoneæs with with both MSA ports and one hba.
Lun masking (2 luns - one to each server) is done in the gui, but both luns appear on both servers and they appear twice, even if MPIO is installed. Any ideas?

My guess is that you installed the wrong version of MPIO. I think you want the basic version of MPIO instead of the full featured version.

Re: MSA2000, lun masking and MPIO on Windows 2008

If I understand correctly:
- there are two volumes on the MSA2000fc
- you think you have presented one per server
- but you see:
-- both volumes and
-- two paths per volume
--- so the disk manager shows 4 disks?

If you see 4 disks, then the presentation on the MSA is not correct. If you see 2 disks (paths), you need to find out if they belong to the same volume. Can you execute the following command and attach the 'scsi.txt' file to your next response (please do not just cut&paste, thanks):
C:\> reg query HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi /s > scsi.txt

The MSA2000fc provides two active/active paths to each volume. On Windows 2008, there is some work to do to configure the embedded MPIO:

Using the right mpio version helped a lot.
