MSA30 RAID5 problem with only 1 disk failed

Hi
I have a MSA30 configured as a RAID5, no online spare.
Recently only one of the disk failed. It has been replaced and there are no more amber lights on the disk array.

But a check on the /var/log/messages file shows the following
cciss: cmd f6d80000 has CHECK CONDITION, sense key = 0x3

this means that the OS has problems reading the disk array.

Why is there a problem with the RAID 5 disk array with only 1 disk failed?

Re: MSA30 RAID5 problem with only 1 disk failed

Has the disk finished rebuilding.

Normally, during a read operation, if data is bad, the Smart array controller will gather all remaining strips and parity to compute the missing data and supply it back to the initiator.

Realize if you have any other disk errors during a rebuild you are susceptible array failure.

Re: MSA30 RAID5 problem with only 1 disk failed

I noticed that the drive that I have replaced has no light on the harddisk symbol but the arrow light flashes normally. What does this mean?

The drive may still be going through Rebuild. Did you originally have a hot spare for this LUN.

What size is the drives.
How is the MSA30 connected, MSA or Smart Array controller.

Another plausible explanation.
That light will tell you if that drive is part of an Array. Perhaps the light pipe on the new drive doesn't line up with the LED causing diminished light output or the LED is out.

The drive can't be rebuilding, it was replaced one week ago.

What I fear is that after the drive is replaced, the rebuild start but failed due to another faulty drive. But the array LED does not show any more faulty drives.
The array is connected to a 642 controller.

Is there an online tool that allows me to see the status of the drive?
