MSA500 Redundant controller test problem
Hi all,
We have a couple of Proliant DL385 machines hooked up to an MSA500 storage array. Both machines are running Windows 2003 Enterprise, are clustered and have SQL Server 2000 Enterprise installed working as a clustered resource.
We had a second MSA500 G2 high availability kit installed in the array and all has been configured and working OK. However, we wanted a way of testing that the redundant storage controller kicks in when the primary controller fails. To do this we pulled out the primary controller. All seemed fine - everything seemed to transfer over properly on the array and the cluster did not failover.
The problem was that when we tried a manual failover of the clustered resources several databases appeared to be corrupted and would not come back online. We tried this twice and on the second occasion the master database got currupted and so SQL itself would not start.
We have spoken to both HP and Microsoft regarding this problem, sending them many different logs, but they say that all seems to be working as expected.
Maybe our test method was not a good one. If so how can we make sure that everything continues to work properly in the event of the primary storage controller failing ?
We also have an issue with the multipath software. Version 2.0B is installed on both nodes, but when trying to upgrade to the Version 2.0C we get the following error:-
"Setup has detected an older version of the Microsoft MPIO framework on this system. This DSM has been qualified with the version of the framework included in this package. DSM's with incompatible version of framework may make the system unstable".
Continuing with the installation it eventually fails with this error:-
"An error occurred during driver installation"
Any thoughts ?
Cheers,
Rob Monger

Thanks Steve,
I'll give that a try.
Cheers,
Rob.
