MSA500G2 occasionally hangs SLES 10

We have an MSA500G2 which has been working fine for 2 years, connected to two DL385s running SuSE Enterprise 10 with CISS driver 2.6.10 . The array has a dual redundant controller setup.

Twice recently the main DL385 has hung and needed a reboot to fix.
the first time there was a 'controller failure' error displayed on the MSA500 LCD, so we installed and ran the HPADU Array diagnostics which found no problems.

The second hang 3 weeks later, there was no error on the Array LCD.
So it isnt 100% definite that the MSA500 is the source of the problems, but its my main suspect so far.

I'm looking for ideas on what to check to work out what may be going on, as this is our main Oracle server and outages are unpleasant !

aha, that looks promising , since we added two new 72GB disks to the array a couple of months ago, and their partno matches the 80-pin model in the list at the URL you sent.

I never updated firmware on a *hard disk* before .. I guess everything has firmware !

I shall try that and I guess I award you some points? this is my first post on here.

I checked the firmware on the two BF0728B26A disks and they already have HPB9 firmware.

However all the older 36GB disks have HPB7 firmware - I assume that since their model number BF03685A35 is not in the list they are ok.

for the older 36GB disks , hpacucli shows:

I am have 2x DL385G4 & 1x MSA500G2 also. I have installed SLES10SP2 on it.

Some services which uses MSA hangs sometimes.

Have You fixed your problem?
