MSA60 & P800 RAID 6 - 5 DAYS for Parity build!?

Is it normal for a RAID 6 to take five days (and counting) to complete the Parity build?

Specs:
ML350 G5
MSA60 with (12) 300 GB 15K SAS HDD's
P800 Array Controller configured for RAID 6.
(all the latest firmwares, drivers and utility apps updated/installed.)

FWIW, RAID 10 and RAID 5 Parity build never took so long. I was simply experimenting with RAID 6 to see if there was an appreciable performance degradation.

Windows 2003 Server copying from internal 146 GB 15,000 RPM drives to the MSA 60:
RAID 10 provided 110 Mb/sec.
RAID 5 just a bit less at 105 Mb/sec.

RAID 6 would result in ??? Mb/sec???

Thanks!!!

RAID-6 / ADG requires _much_ more I/Os. Do you really see I/O on the disks? Some SmartArray controllers do not start the RAID-build until at least on write was done to the volume. The build could also run as a low priority and interrupted by host-I/O.
