Media Errors
Hi,
I if you have a drive in an array fail, but another drive has a media error, will a rebuild be successful after replacing the failed drive? If so, how concerned should we be regarding media errors? thanks

Re: Media Errors
Some disk arrays can handle that, but Most do not. The HP VA7400 does. What kind of disk array do you have? What kind of system is it attached to? What OS level is the System that it is attached to?

Re: Media Errors
Tommy,
For what I've seen on Netraid Controller in Netservers is that when you have 1 disk on fial and another (within the same array) with media errors the rebuild will probably fail.
Is the disk with the FAILURE state really broken (are there media or non-media errors on it)?
Sometimes a disk with media errors takes another, healthy, disk offline, in that case you should put the failed disk online, do a consistency check, fail the disk with the media errors and replace and rebuild it.
But you are in a risky situation: please make sure you have a very good backup before doing anything; you might need it.
Good luck,
Marco.
