Mirroring DATA from VA7110 to DS2405

Hi All,

I want to connect a DS2405 to VA7110 as an enclosure. IS it possible to mirroring all the data on VA7110 to DS2405. If not, What is the best solution in this case. I want to mirroring 2TB data to another device. This device should be phisically seprated from VA.

Re: Mirroring DATA from VA7110 to DS2405

Hi

If you are connecting DS2405 to VA7110, it is technically not recommended because Mirroring should be accomplished across two different IO channels and idntical disk types.

Suggest following:
Option1. To take full backup of VA and reconstruct it with Auto RAID option . You do not have to go for mirroring

Option2: Go for another VA7110 with FC HBAs if you want to mirror VA Logical volumes

Re: Mirroring DATA from VA7110 to DS2405

Hi Alireza

The VA7110 is a disk Array With its own Mirror controller. So you dont left with this option .Probably You can go for OS mirroring(In case of HP You can opt for HP-LVM-Mirror -UX).This product will fullfil your requirment.

In case of any clarrification kindly let me know.

Re: Mirroring DATA from VA7110 to DS2405

Thank you All,

In MSA1000 it is possible to create multiple arrays. if you add a MSA30 you can create an array with the HDDs on MSA1000 and create another array with HDDs on MSA30 And yoy can mirror all the data on MSa1000's Array on MSA30's Array. Is it possible to create multiple arrays on VA7110 and after that create LUNs on those arrays?

Re: Mirroring DATA from VA7110 to DS2405

No, that is not possible, sorry. The VA series use virtualization firmware and have no traditional RAID mode. But you CAN create multiple LUNs of different sizes for different purposes.

Re: Mirroring DATA from VA7110 to DS2405

Thank you,

Does VA7110 support RAID 10 on 4TB storage.
I want to use RAID 10 for 28* 146GB FC HDD.
Can it handle it. Some of the storage systems do not support such this load. What about VA7110+DS2405?

Re: Mirroring DATA from VA7110 to DS2405

Hi Alireza

As told by Uwe the Va7100 doesnot support any native Raid levels and for rest of your questions

IN VA7110:

Maximum Data Capacity:
Up to 1.1 TB (15 x 73GB)

RAID levels:
RAID 1+0
AutoRAID

Supported Disk Drives:
18GB, 15k rpm, Disk Drive - A6191-69001
36GB, 10k rpm, Disk Drive - A6192-69001
73GB, 15k rpm, Disk Drive - A7288-69001

I am sure this will clear all your doubts

Re: Mirroring DATA from VA7110 to DS2405

Hi,

I think you made a mistake. The maximum capacity of VA7110 is 6 TB you can add DS2405 as extra enclosures and increase your capacity. Take a look at "Features & benefits" section of following URL:

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/va7110/index.html

So my question is still exist. Does it support RAID 10 whenever I use its full capacity?

Re: Mirroring DATA from VA7110 to DS2405

The VA does work with RAID10 'by default'. You have to explicitly switch it into 'AUTORAID' mode. In that case the array will automatically 'convert' less often used data from RAID10 into RAID5DP to save raw disk space which allows the user to store more data than in pure RAID10. If I recall correctly, the conversion starts after the VA becomes about 50% full at it always leaves a minimum amount of data in RAID10 (10%?).

Re: Mirroring DATA from VA7110 to DS2405

Sorry, I forgot:
last time I checked, the switch to AUTORAID was not reversible!

The only way to go back is to back up all data to external media and re-initialize the VA, then restore the data, but be aware that you now have less space available.
