Mis-Matched Firmware on 12H AutoRAID
I have a 12H AutoRaid that had a controller card failure. (X controller failed and currently running on Y)
I have a replacement controller but when I install it I get a "Needs Firmware" warnning.
I've checked both controller cards for firmware version with the front panel, both show HP60.
Should I do a firmware copy or is there something else I shold look at?

Re: Mis-Matched Firmware on 12H AutoRAID
Leonard,
it is necessary that both controllers have exactly the same firmware. The issue is usually that the replacement controller has a newer version than the old one.
There is an HP document that describes how to copy the firmware from one controller to the other. If I remmeber it correctly, you cannot downgrade, so you have to copy from the new one to the remaining old controller.
I'd attach the document, if I only had it in a file :-( Especially since it repeatedly stressed that this action should be performed *very* *very* carefully!
So before you do anything wrong please try to get this doc from HP.
Regards,
Bernhard

Re: Mis-Matched Firmware on 12H AutoRAID
Hey,
if I did not scare you too much, here's what I found. It is up to you whether you try it, does not sound to scary though! Looks like the way you should go.... (might want to take a backup first anyway, or?)

Right now it is not possible to perform a firmware update on an
AutoRAID which is configured as boot device on a V-class system.
To perform an online update you need to unmount the corresponding
VG which in this case is not possible. The offline utility ARDIAG
is currently not working on V-class systems.
A workaround for the Model 12H in your case would be to copy the
firmware via the front panel from one controller to the other
controller. To do this perform the following steps:
Frontpane Display: (Firmware Needed)
-> press MENU - (Language)
-> press + - (Cntrl Changes)
-> press ENTER - (SCSI ID)
-> press - - (Copy Firmware)
-> press ENTER
If you do not see the display "Copy Firmware" you need to assign the
other controller to be the primary one which can be done easily via
the front panel, too:
Frontpane Display: (Firmware Needed)
-> press MENU - (Language)
-> press + - (Cntrl Changes)
-> press ENTER - (SCSI ID)
-> press + - (Switch Cntrl)
-> press ENTER

Bernhard
