Mixed Disk Question

Sorry that this is such a basic question but...

I have an MSA30 with 14 x 146gb drives in. I am trying to get my company to upgrade to 300gb drives but they asked me if it's possible for them only to buy 5 and not 14 - Is this possible or will it just not work ? (Current raid level is 5)

Gary,

If you mix disc sizes in an array, the size of the smallest spindle will be used. You will find that the extra space (154Gb) on the 300Gb discs will not be used.
