Need help for replace a failed disk to MSA2000

Hi,

Recently one of the disk in MSA2212fc is faulty. After replace the disk we found the disk status is AVAIL but all other disk status is VDISK.
# show disks
ID Serial# Vendor Rev. State Type Size(GB) Rate(Gb/s) SP
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
0 3QP08N4C000099091BET SEAGATE 0004 VDISK SAS 300 3.0
1 3QP08FSF000099091639 SEAGATE 0004 VDISK SAS 300 3.0
2 3QP07ZM000009908XVFK SEAGATE 0004 VDISK SAS 300 3.0
3 3QP06ELQ0000990916UU SEAGATE 0004 VDISK SAS 300 3.0
4 3QP08FQ000009908APXK SEAGATE 0004 VDISK SAS 300 3.0
5 3LM5RTR700009909LWL6 SEAGATE 0002 AVAIL SAS 300 3.0
6 3QP08FA70000990916YZ SEAGATE 0004 VDISK SAS 300 3.0
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And I have one vdisk and 4 volume.

Please provide me the action plan / command for add the disk to the existing vdisk. The MSA is not available through web GUI.

Hi!

You need to take the new disk and put it as a spare in the vdisk.

CLI reference for the MSA2000 is here:

http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02710176/c02710176.pdf

See page 154 for set vdisk-spare
See page 129 for set global-spare

"set vdisk-spare disks 0.5 VD"

More manuals here:

If you don't have dynamic sparing enabled you need to make it a spare disk first.

Hope this helps!

Hello,

What will happen after add the disk as spare? Is it impact on existing volume? ( I have 4 volume). What happened of my data that was available on the failed disk?

Re: Need help for replace a failed disk to MSA2000

If a disk went bad the system will restore the data on a spare drive. So the logical drive will be OK, but you don't have a spare any longer. With dynamic sparing a new disk will be used as spare if needed, without you need to make a new disk a spare, otherwise it will just sit there doing nothing.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
