Re: No. of disks in a LUN

It's HP's AUTORAID (on steriods), so there isn't really a single disk with "stuff" on it.

Ooops, Harry is right...

According to the guru's that designed the VA, you are NOT ALLOWED to know how it works --- just accept it!

........just for interest sakes, here is the thread posted by Tim Fulford regarding the theory of operation of Autoraid, now that your thread has been moved it is just below yours!

Re: No. of disks in a LUN

It's not so easy to figure this if you don't understand the array... let me explain:

There are 2 Redundancy Groups (RG's) - RG1 and RG2. RG1 consists of all the drives in odd-numbered slots (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15) in the disk chassis'. RG2 is all the even-numbered slots (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14).

All LUNs have an assigned RG. You specify the RG when you create the LUN. Every LUN spans ALL of the drives in the RG.

So, if you have 30 drives in 2 chassis (base plus 1 expansion) then RG1 has 8 disks per chassis, or 16 disks, and RG2 has 7 per chassis, or 14 drives.

Any LUN on RG1 has 16 drives in it. Any LUN on RG2 has 14.

Good luck!
No matter where you go, there you are.
