Hi, we have P2000G3 SAS, fully occupied by 450GB and 600GB disks. One 600GB was a global spare. When one day a 450GB disk failed, global spare became a part of 450GB disks array. A newly added 450GB became a global spare. Is it possible to revert situation back: so, add this new 450GB as part of array and return 600GB as global spare ?
P.S. This thread has been moved from Storage Area Networks (SAN) > Storage Area Networks (SAN) (Small and Medium Business) > to Disk Array. -HP Forum Moderator

Re: P2000: change global spare
Thank you Pac-Man. But what if I have only one 600GB disk in VDISK (all others are 450GB), will it OK if I remove it, will 450GB spare "kick in" ?

SolutionIf the 450GB vdisk is RAID 5 or 6 then you can remove the 600GB drive and allow the 450GB drive which is configured as a global spare to kick in and reconstruct the array, once the rebuild is finished you can insert the 600GB drive back and clear the metadata and configure back it as spare.
Make sure that data is backed up while doing these changes.
