P2000 firmware versions
Dear all,
since today is "experts online day", here is the question.
Current firmware for the P2000 is
Version: TS250P002 (12 Jul 2013)
previous version was
Version: TS250R023 (5 Apr 2013)
so from naming one may assume "R" is newer than "P", "002" is lower than "023".
It's a bit confusing, isn't it?
Why this naming and how about a firmware update tool version that can be used offline (without internet connection)?
And by the way, a bundle with all current disk firmware files would be very nice, today you need to download each file one by one.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: P2000 firmware versions
Hi Torsten
Following is the versioning pattern of MSA2000/ P2000 firmware :
Versioning key:
AxxxByyy-zz
Where the following letters represent release information about the firmware version:
A
MSA model. (TS=P2000 G3, M=MSA2000 G2, J=MSA2000)
xxx
Firmware version. This value changes for major, scheduled releases. Depending on the MSA model, this number may also indicate model protocol.
B
Type of release. (R=Regular release, P=Planned update to a regular release, S=Special release)
yyy
Major release number.
-zz
Minor release number.
Regarding the Firmware bundle for harddrive , Thanks for your suggestion and as you mentioned it will simplify the stuff a lot.
will pass this to firmware team.
Thanks
Sai

Re: P2000 firmware versions
how about a firmware update tool version that can be used offline (without internet connection)?
Once the cpXXXX.exe file is downloaded , Internet connection is required to upgrade the controller firmware .
Thanks

Thias is the problem. Imagine I'm in the office and download all the firmware stuff using this tool. Then I go to the data center, connect directly to the array and want to use the tool - no way.
No "bridge" between internet and internal management net allowed.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: P2000 firmware versions
Hi Torsten,
As for the version identifiers, "R" is for release, "P" is for a patch to a release.
As for the offline update, do you mean without any network connection? Or just without the Internet connection? I'm suggesting an enhancement to allow a secure site option that allows you to download the necessary files to a local repository and then use that repository as the source for the FW update tool.
As for HDD firmware bundles, FW for all the HDD models at all the capacity points changes frequently, so if we sent out an advisory, you'd still have to look to see if it has updates for your HDDs. Further, instead of just download a few MB, you'd be downloading a lot that you may not need.

Re: P2000 firmware versions
Yes, but if you know the bundled firmware for EVA (disks) or LTT bundles for tape libraries you see what I mean.
On P2000 you probably need the controller firmware, several disk firmware, expansion box firmware etc. all one by one.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: P2000 firmware versions
Regarding Disk Drive Firmware:
The Customer can use the same Disk's as in the ProLiant Server (until G7).
But there is differrent Firmware.
Example:
Have a MSA with 900GB Drive's some 24 Drives have Firmware HPD3 and 24 Drives have HPD7.
There is no HPD7 Firmware for 900GB P2000 Drives.
The HPD7 Firmware for ProLiant Drives is not accepted.
What happends if I Update the Drive Firmware:
1. Attemp - All HPD7 Firmware are Downgraded to HPD5
2. Attem2 - All HPD3 Firmware Upgraded to HPD5
This is ugly

Re: P2000 firmware versions
You are right.
The P2000 page for eample lists EG0900FBLSK HPD5 as latest, the page for this disk itself lists HPD7.
The list of fixes may apply to disks in an array too, right?
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=1127655&swItem=MTX-df8a5c84ce494e6ea1d6d9b934&prodNameId=5101469&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=1
But you need to select the disks for upgrade, so its your choice which disk has to be updated.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: P2000 firmware versions
If you use the Windows.exe for Updating, it will Update/Downgrade all Drives.
