P2000G3 - extending vdisk

Hi all,

another P2000G3 related question.

The quickspecs say I can have up to 16 disks in a single RAID10 vdisk. Currently I have 10 and I want to include another 6 disks.

The SMU suggest me a choice of 1 or 2 disk pairs to add (2 or 4 disks), but if I select 2 sub-vdisks and 4 physical disks, the system says something like "invalid number of disks".

At this point I can only add 1 pair of disks (2 disks). After the expand has finished, I can add another pair and so on. This takes several days.

Why the system allows me in the first step to add 4 disks at a time, but then it says this is not allowed?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: P2000G3 - extending vdisk

Hi Torsten,

Please note that I am aware of this issue for MSA2300 G2.

For a RAID10 from SMU more than 2 drives cannot be added at a time (even it is stated on the guide). Once we selected just one subvdisk the expansion worked.

The only way to expand a RAID10 level vdisk with more than 2 drives is by using CLI.

Please find the link,

I don't think it has been resolved in P2000 as well but I need to check if any firmware has the fix.

I work for HPE

Re: P2000G3 - extending vdisk

According to the manual it should be like this:

Example

Expand vdisk VD1 to include the disk having ID 11 in the first enclosure:

# expand vdisk disks 1.11 VD1

Why I'm not surprised this CANNOT be done via the web browser interface???

Thanks!

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
