Re: Problem with armdiscover & armdsp

Hi (again) Andrey,

what version you are using? Some changes in environment?

You'll find the current ver 1.09 here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?locale=en_US&pnameOID=443575&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18964&prodSeriesId=64112〈=en&cc=us&swEnvOID=7

T.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Problem with armdiscover & armdsp

Take care, there are differnet versions on the page.

Version 1.09.01 from August 29th 2005 is the current.

I'm pretty sure, it's always part 1 of 1 ;-)

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Problem with armdiscover & armdsp

It's not the root cause of your problem, I'm sure, but it's a good idea to use a current software.

Please tell us more about your environment. How many servers are connected? Security? (SAN zones/security manager on VA)?
Direct attached or via SAN?
Any recent changes in IP config?
Are you able to see all configured LUNS on VA with ioscan?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Problem with armdiscover & armdsp

Hi!

It's two hosts running in MC/ServiceGuard cluster. Two VAs connected to this hosts directly.

Recently I've changed IP adresses and hostnames of this two hosts.

About security: I don't know how to check. I'am novice in HP. Maybe can you send me some link to the good SDM document?

Re: Problem with armdiscover & armdsp

just to make sure your IP and name resolving are good, try

#hostname

and check the resolving with

#nslookup

Is the given IP address correct?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Was the old address inside?

Hope this helps!

Yeah, I've changed this file there were an old IP address. After that armdiscover works!

But something strange with armdsp...

Re: Problem with armdiscover & armdsp

OK, the armdiscover problem is solved.

But are you sure to have a VA???

The only thing I can see is 1 dual connected or 2 single connected DS2405 and some disks.
The DS2405 can either be a standalone JBOD or an extension to a VA. Both look exactly the same in front view, except it's written "DS2404" or "vitual array" on it.
The ioscan you posted shows 8 or 16 disks, depends on dual/single path to it.
Please provide a full ioscan -fn.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Problem with armdiscover & armdsp

Hi Andrey,

I'm quite sure you have 1 or 2 direct connected DS2405 JBODs - no VA7xxx.

The Commandview SDM software works also with this device, but you'll have only a view options.

If you download a version from HP's website, there should be the manual included - at least for the VA command sets. Try it!

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Problem with armdiscover & armdsp

Nice to know:

recently I saw the error

failed to obtain remote database interface to host: localhost

after updating CommandView SDM from Version 1.07 to 1.09.01.

Tuning the kernel parameter max_thread_proc from 64 to 256 was the solution!

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Problem with armdiscover & armdsp

Can you please briefly describe upgrade procedure? Just swcopy && swinstall? Do I need to backup anything? Remove old version?
Thanks!

Re: Problem with armdiscover & armdsp

Andrey,

if you are still on version 1.08, swremove
CMDVIEWSDM. The logfile is telling you to remove also the following:

CMDVIEWSDM
HPOVLIC
HPOVSAMDA
HPOVSAMHA
HPOVSAMJR
HPOVSAMSG
SMI_S_VA
SSLIC

no reboot needed.

Copy

/opt/sanmgr/commandview/server/config/PanConfigParams.txt
/opt/sanmgr/commandview/server/config/ContactInfo.txt
/opt/sanmgr/hostagent/config/access.dat
/opt/sanmgr/hostagent/config/commIpAddr.txt

and check if the files are modified.

Remove

rm -fR /opt/sanmgr
rm -fR /etc/opt/sanmgr
rm -fR /var/opt/sanmgr

Install version 1.09.01

check again the config files (see above).

Run "armdiscover".

That's it.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
