RAID 0 to RAID 1

Hey,
I have a Proliant370 with an integrated RAID controller (HP smart Array). The machine has 4 disks and windows 2000 server installed. Disk0 is the system disk and has now RAID associated (in the RAID conf it says it is a RAID 0), the other 3 disks are in a RAID5 conf. I need to mirror disk0 implementing a fifth disk. Basicaly, disk0 and disk5 will become RAID1. Disk0 is the system disk and can not be deleted, how do I proceed. Thanks in advance. Daniele Iozzino, Rome

Re: RAID 0 to RAID 1

Daniele:

If disk 0 is truely set up in an array and has a RAID0 configured logical drive, then all you should need to do is add in the second drive to the server, in ACU... expand the array by adding the new drive and then migrate the logical drive to "RAID1". I believe it is a fully "online" procedure with no downtime, but I suggest you do it during a period of less or no activity. Also, always make sure you have a good backup. Sometimes things do not go as planned.
