RAID 1+0 problem

I have a HP Prolaint Server with a Smart Array Controller 641 and four 72GB SCSI HDD Hot Plug in RAID 1+0

I added two 146 GB HDD in RAID 1+0

Before expend array:
Two logical drive 1- 72 GB, 2 - 72 GB
After expend array:
Three logical drive 1-72 GB, 2 - 72 GB, and 3 - 72 GB,
I don’t understand way the two HDD (146 GB) is not creating a logical drive 3 - 146GB.\
I have a warning message the HDD is not the same capacity.

Where did you get this warning and for which drives? This warning means that the two drives are not the same size, maybe you put in one 146Gb and one 72GB drives?

Were you able to see the TWO NEW drives showing up as 146GB drives in ACU?

It looks to me that you added the two drives to the same array A which is a mirror and stripe array and it expanded to the two new disks.

The above does not mean that Drive 1 is on the two disks ID 2 and ID3 and Drive 2 is on disks ID 4 and ID 5. What it means is that Drive 1 is on all 4 disks and Drive 2 is on all 4 disks.

When you added the new 146GB disks it can not use them.

What you should have done is create a new array B using the two new disks only.

Ok,

I cannot assign a group of physical drives to the same array unless they are of the same capacity. If the drives have different capacities, the excess capacity of the larger drives cannot be used by the array and is wasted.

I want to create a new Array B with the two drives.
I delete the logical drive 3 but the physical drive is assigned an array A.
How to delete in ACU the two physical drives in array A?I cannot see this option.

Unfortunately I don't have access to an ACU right now and have never used it in Novell.

This doc on bottom of page 21 clearly creates a new array. Not sure if your two 146GB disks already have array A info written in them and are automatically assigned to array A when inserted in the slots.

If the logical drive 3 is not initializing in OS that means I donâ t have data here.

I delete the logical drive 3 and now the 2 physical drives is like unused drive but is assigned on A array.

I want to know whatâ s happened if I take off this last drives added in my array A and I restart the server. I can have a message warning about the 2 physical drive is missing?

It is possible to have an option on reboot to delete this drive on my array A?
