RAID 5 Capacity Expansion

hello,

i need to increase the capacity of our fileserver, raid5 with bigger harddrives.
the systempartition is an raid 1 with 150gb drives.

is there a possibility to "change" the drives online?

the datapartition is now configured as raid 5 with 3x150gb sas driver, i want to change them to 3x300gb drives.

is it possible to do this with hp array config. utility?

many thanks!

Re: RAID 5 Capacity Expansion

You can replace each disk, one by one, waiting for the RAID reconstruction to finish before replacing the next disk.

You'll end with a RAID that has 600 GB usable, 300 used by the existing LUN. Then you have to expand the LUN to use the 600 GB.

And finally, expand the filesystem using operating system tools.

Re: RAID 5 Capacity Expansion

Hello,
I you not have battery cache, you can use solution provided by vcespon, but at the end not expand the array, but create a new logical volume. This allows you have another 300GB disk under windows.
You can live with if if you do not need whole 600GB in one windows disk.
