RAID Manager Configuration - 2 Datacenters

We have 2 datacenters with an XP20000 in each one. Currently I have a single server at the primary data center running RAID Manager. It is zoned to see a single LUN from each array, both 47MB CM "system disks".

I want to add a second RAID Manager server at our backup datacenter. The question is how to configure them once I do.

Here are a few thoughts please let me knnow what you think.

1. Configure a new CM on each XP20000, for a total of 4 CMs (2 per server). Install a new RAID Manager server at the backup datacenter. Configure each RAID Manager server to communicate with unique CMs per array.

2. Install a new RAID Manager server at the backup datacenter. Have each RAID Maanager communicate with the existing CMs on both arrays. (Not sure if this is supported)

3. Install a new RAID Manager server at the backup datacenter. Configure the primary datacenter RAID Mangaer to communicate with the XP20000 at the primary datacenter. Configure the backup datacenter RAID Manager to communicate with XP20000 at this datacenter. (Is this a valid configuration?)

Our end goal is to run Async CA for several LUNs at the primary datacenter for our VMware implementation, utilizing VMware SRM.

Re: RAID Manager Configuration - 2 Datacenters

It is supported for multiple hosts to access a single CMD device. A lot of places have a single CMD per port on the XP.

I commonly see configurations where there is a RAID Manager (CCI) server at the primary site talking to a CMD device on the XP at the primary site. This is configured with HORCM0 controlling the PVOLs.

Then at the secondary site there is another RAID Manager (CCI) server talking to a CMD device on the XP at the secondary site. Configured as HORCM1 and controlling the SVOLs.

Kind of looks like option 3 to me. Im not saying the other options wont work (Im not a replication product specialist).

Of course HORCM0 and HORCM1 are arbitrary and you can number them however you wish
