Re: RAID Volume expansion in Windows 2000 server
I have planned the disk space upgradation as below. Please go through and let me know if that will work.
For 2 server which has got RAID 1+0 and 2 partitions in the logical drive as C and D.
1.We will be adding 2*72.8GB disks in the server
2.Create a new RAID 1+0 array
3.Name the existing D: as something else eg. X:
4.care one partition with newly created RAID 1+0 and assign the drive letter as D:
5.Then move the data from X: to D:
Now we are left with 3*72.8GB disks. We will be using these in server 3 which has got one RAID 1+0 and one RAID 5 array.
RAID 1+0 has got 2 partitions i.e C: and E:
RAID 5 has got 2 partitions i.e D: and F:
1.we are planning to move some unnecessary data from C: to E: as E: have suffiecient space unused.
2.Replace the three 36.4GB disks in RAID 5 array one by one with 72.8GB disks and wait for the rebuild i.e replace one 36.4GB disk in the RAID 5 array with a 72.8GB disk and wait for the rebuild.Once this completes do the same for remaining 2 disks.
I hope this will work and I want to know your views on this.

Re: RAID Volume expansion in Windows 2000 server
1 scenario, yes good idea changing partition letters :-)
2 scenario, yes it will work, replacing one by one yes, but Like I told you update everything and do backups if you have the chance

Re: RAID Volume expansion in Windows 2000 server
I have a windows 2000 server where in I am unable to logon to HP system management homepage with administrator password.I have the password listed in a file but if I try that i get the error as login rejected.Do we have any way of resetting the password?
I am unable to open the HP array configuration utility because of this.
Thanks & Regards

Re: RAID Volume expansion in Windows 2000 server
I have the same old doubt now regarding the expansion of RAID 5.
In the server where i have a RAID 5 which is created with 3*36.4GB disks,I want to expand the logical partitions D and F in this.
My plan is to replace the current 36.4GB disks one by one with 3*72.8GB disks.
I want to know whether this will expand the RAID 5 and I will be able to increase the pation size or not.
Please clarify on this.
Thanks & Regards

Re: RAID Volume expansion in Windows 2000 server
yes of course you will get more space if not what would be idea the idea in adding bigger HDDs if you don't get more space????
it would be useless and waste of money
