Raid 1 or Raid 10 configuration

Hi, There,
I got confuzed by hp definiation of RAID 1 and RAID 1O.
Our proliant server G4 380 installed with HP smart array 6400 Raid controller card, last time there are only 2 Hdds for 1 logical drive with RAID 1 configuration, now we are facing some I/O problem on the server, so planning to migrate to RAID 10, However, the funny is now I found the existing configuration of RAID is RAID 1+0.
It told RAID 1 is RAID 0+1 which is only mirring without stripping, and RAID 10 is RAID 1+0 which support mirring and stripping and at least 4 HDDs required, and it improve disk performance, the same time support better data redandunce.
If this is true, how comes my existing RAID which has only 2 disk can be RAID 1+0?

And if it is alreay RAID 1+0 with 2 HDD, if I migrate to with 4 HDD, will this help the performance interms of disk I/O?

Many thanks for any idea!

Hi Shermaine.

HP references RAID 1 and RAID 1+0 as the same config in the ACU.

To build a true RAID 1+0 you need at least 4 disks.

Re: Raid 1 or Raid 10 configuration

Hi, Andy,
So in this case, in the HP ACU, the RAID 1+0 with two HDDs only has mirring, no stripp, right?

Do u have any idea whether true RAID 1+0 with 4 hdd can provide faster I/O access than the existing 2 HDD, if yes, how many percentage it can improve?

Many thanks and good day!

Shermaine
