Replacing disk in a C2300 Disk Array

Hi All,

One of the disks in a C2300 Disk Array has gone bad. This Array is connected to 2 K-class servers running HPUX 11.00. When i view the CSTM logs ,it shows me 4 Luns..

SO i have to replace the DIsk at slot E0 .. which is in RAID5 with other 4 disks ..

Can anyone give me the steps on how to replace the disk & rebuild the RAID5 ..
Can this be done through the "hparray" utility .. i searched its man pages .. & tried to start "ARMServer" deamon .. but its not starting..

Thanks in advance ..
Points assured ..

Re: Replacing disk in a C2300 Disk Array

Hi,

There are totaly four LUNS configured ..

LUN0(16.8gb)-(Raid5) 5 x 4.2 GB Disks
LUN1(12.6gb)-(Raid5) 4 x 4.2 GB Disks
LUN2(16.8gb)-(Raid5) 5 x 4.2 GB Disks
LUN3(16.8gb)-(Raid5) 5 x 4.2 GB Disks

Total 19 disks in the whole array.
Now this LUN2.. shown below indicates a "?" for the 5th Disk.. which needs to be replaced..

2 A/A * R/- Off RAID-5 C2300WDR5 16.8gb 512
A0 /A0 IBM DCHS04F CLAR04 4.2gb
B0 /B0 IBM DCHS04F CLAR04 4.2gb
C0 /C0 IBM DCHS04F CLAR04 4.2gb
D0 /D0 IBM DCHS04F CLAR04 4.2gb
E0 /? IBM DCHS04F CLAR04 4.2gb

I searched in HP site .. but dont find any details of this OLD Array...

Re: Replacing disk in a C2300 Disk Array

Can you attach the first output again?
I can't read it.

Normally you should only swap the disk - that's it.

For more info search the forum for "nike disk array".

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

I have attached the full CSTM output...
Please check the same & Suggest ..

Re: Replacing disk in a C2300 Disk Array

The "?" indicates a bad drive.

The column header Fru/BS means Disk FRU/FRU-bind-slot.

If you replace the disk, the rebuild will start automatically.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Replacing disk in a C2300 Disk Array

Ok ..
This disk is a 4.2 GB SE-SCSI .. which means not hotswappable .. so i have to poweroff before replacing it ?

SO to replace the drive .. i need to ..
1) shutdown the server ..
2) poweroff the Array
3) Then replace the DIsk.
4) Poweron the Array.. ( It should automaticaly start rebuilding the Raid5 Lun ..)
5) poweron the server ..

Does this step look Good ?

Re: Replacing disk in a C2300 Disk Array

All disk drives are hot-plug - never ever change anything on the array while it is powered off!!!

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Replacing disk in a C2300 Disk Array

So ..

You mean to say .. we can "Hot Swap" the disk while the Array & Server are UP & running ...
Iam little confused .. because when i searched the disk model - DCHS04F ..in sites .. it shows as a Single ended 50 pin Drive .. which i think is not hot swappable ..

Re: Replacing disk in a C2300 Disk Array

Don't worry, SCSI is converted to F/W.

Here are some related manuals for the nike disk array:
