Resolving Disk Array Devices to Devices Files

I am inventorying Disk Space in our Computer Room. We have several HVD10s, FC60 and SC10s, and AutoRaid 12Hs.

I am having trouble identifying through a script which disks are part of which Array on the relevant Servers. I can identify the Disks as being FC60 because of the model details, but not which FC60 it is (3 servers are connected to this particular Array).

Can anyone tell me how SAM manages to identify the Disks as belonging to an FC60?

Thanks, Ian Dennison

Re: Resolving Disk Array Devices to Devices Files

If you would attach ioscan here it will be great. FC60 device and LUNs have inquiry string "A5277A"

Re: Resolving Disk Array Devices to Devices Files

Eugeny,

I can get a list of disks thru ioscan and identify the Disk Model number for an FC60. However I am finding it tough identifying which FC60 it is that I am looking at (ie is this the same FC60 as I already looked at, or a completely different FC60?)

Thanks, Ian

Re: Resolving Disk Array Devices to Devices Files

How to detect FC60?
For controllers address is:
hwpath.sw#.pt#.255.a.b.0
where sw# is switch domain#, pt# is switch's port (+16 for brocade), and a*16+b=FC60 controller alpa
For LUNs:
hwpath.sw#.pt#.alpa.x.y.z
where alpa is alpa of FC60 controller, x*128+y*8+z is a FC60 LUN number

Re: Resolving Disk Array Devices to Devices Files

BTW, for private loop sw# is 8 and pt# is 0.
That's why you can not have switch with domain#=8 in the fabric
Points, please :o))

Eugeny

Thanks for your efforts in educating me on Disk Namings. I have put 5 points on the first reply, but will need to work through the contents of your postings to satisfy myself that I understand the solution before I assign points.

Never fear, you will not be forgotten! Good points will be assigned.

Thanks, Ian

Ian,

You may want to look at this reply, it's pretty well explained.

Ian,

You may also want to look at the Advanced User's Guide. It may provide some insight into how SAM sees the disks. I tis located here.

Re: Resolving Disk Array Devices to Devices Files

Eugeny / David,

Have finally cleared my backlog and tested the identification of these Arrays out.

The naming format specified by Eugeny and the links from David have proven to be perfect.

Spasiba to you both (Eugyny, you are now on the next hat - congratulations!)
