Rules for adding disk enclosures to EVA8000

Is there a best practice in the number of disk enclosures that should be added to an EVA8000 when expanding the EVA? Our customer currently has an EVA8000 with 8 enclosures and wants to add more disk. The EVA has 4 loop switches as well. Should the customer buy the enclosures in pairs to distribute the new disks between loops 1 and 2 or could they just buy one shelf and load up a single loop?

Thanks...Robert.

Re: Rules for adding disk enclosures to EVA8000

Hi Robert,

According to the QuickSpecs, in the Optional Hardware Accessories section:

"It is recommended that drive enclosures be added in pairs to a maximum of 12 per cabinet."

Hope this helps,

Re: Rules for adding disk enclosures to EVA8000

It is supported upgrading by one Enclosure only, but HP recommendation is 2 at a time for symmetry.

Find attached the disk enclosure online installation guide.

Note: You can only install up to 2C12D online. If you go >12D you need a second rack. To hook up of the second rack you need to open the address bus which requires a short downtime.
