SPOCK Connectivity Guides - Minimum or specific Driver versions?

Have been told to go "lone-wolf" by the powers-that-be to perform the pre-requisite checks for EVA VCS 4.x upgrade, rather than engaging HP or a third party.

Have got a SPOCK login and are checking out the versions in the EVA5000 VCS 4.x Windows Server 2000 document. Example, they specifically list Driver Version 5-5.30a2 or 5-5.20a10 for LP9002. Are these minimum Driver Versions supported or the ONLY Driver Versions supported? I have higher driver versions on some servers, so need to know if I have to downgrade or not.

Also, whats the difference between an HSV110 and an HSV111? I thought one was VCS 3.x and one was VCS 4.x.

Share and Enjoy! Ian

Re: SPOCK Connectivity Guides - Minimum or specific Driver versions?

hi,
a) the red ones are the new ones from the SPOCK point of view, the black ones are supported as well, there is HP testing in between so yes, the red are not necessarily the newest version from the HBA vendor side...

b) eva controllers

eva 3000/5000
hsv 100/110

eva 4000/6000/8000
hsv 200/200/210

eva 4100/6100/8100
hsv 200-b/200-b/210-b

eva 4400/6400/8400
hsv 300/400/450

Right - this is a 'hack' to help Secure Path for active/passive arrays to keep its fingers from an active/active one.

Re: SPOCK Connectivity Guides - Minimum or specific Driver versions?

iBalty,

a) Red? The PDFs I have downloaded are not colour coded.

b) I have seen several references to HSV111 with the EVA5000 within SPOCK, so I think your list is missing some detail.

Uwe,

Magic answer, thanks.

Re: SPOCK Connectivity Guides - Minimum or specific Driver versions?

Well can expand that a little:

HSV100: EVA-3000 with active/passive firmware
HSV101: EVA-3000 with active/active firmware (V4)

HSV110: EVA-5000 with active/passive firmware
HSV111: EVA-5000 with active/active firmware (V4)

Re: SPOCK Connectivity Guides - Minimum or specific Driver versions?

its just the SCSI inquiry string/device handler: A/P: HSV100/HSV110 vs. A/A: HSV101/HSV111,
but the controllers themselves remain the HSV100/HSV110, in other words:

SCSI inq. string
HSV100/HSV110 + VCS 3110 = HSV100/HSV110
HSV100/HSV110 + VCS 4110 = HSV101/HSV111

for better explanation the source could be e.g. the Linux device mapper installation reference guide:
http://bizsupport.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01388344/c01388344.pdf
