SSL 4314 storage work enclosure
Hi.got a problem here, been cracking my head n asking for expert help, but to no avail.
currently using a storage work enclosure SSL 4314(Compaq,before HP merger)a white color box.using smart array 4200 controller.
i am trying using the new U320 10k rpm 72gb harddisk 286714-b22 ,but no one could tell me if this harddisk can work in this scenario.currently it is using 5*36gb.the server is DL 580 first generation.

Re: SSL 4314 storage work enclosure
The disks will work, but you will not be able to get U320 speeds out of them. The 4314 (external enclosure) is only capable of Ultra3 (U3) speeds. The 4200 array controller is only capable of Ultra2 (U2) speeds. The DL580 internal drive backplane is only capable of U3.

Re: SSL 4314 storage work enclosure
hi.thanks for the great info.
meanwhile, while we try to configure the u320 harddisk, rightfully we should press f8/f10 at the system screen when we reboot the server but it doesnt show up.so should we go into the utilities n do the setup of new harddisk?

Re: SSL 4314 storage work enclosure
Fred,
I am assuming that you are asking how to configure a new array with the U320 drives attached to the 4200 controller?
If so you need to use the Array Configuration Utility (ACU) to configure the new array. You can use the ACU OFFLINE by booting to a 5.X version of SmartStart (you can not use the newer 6.X versions of SmartStart on this machine). You can use the ACU Online in Windows NT by downloading it at: http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/14185.html
