SUN D1000 disk array with HP9000 K-Series

trying to hook this beasts together.
hp-ux 11.11, 2x CPU K-series HP 9000 server
HP-UX hp B.11.11 U 9000/879 1245015321 unlimited-user license

Old D1000 SUN box.
All drives normally recognized by HP, but when I try to create volumes (eve just trying to create filesystem) causes permanent bus reset.

Leonid,

What SCSI adapters are you using on your K_class? If I can recall correctly, you will need a HVD Differential SCSI HBA as well as Differential SCSI cables to hook up a D1000 to any server.
Hakuna Matata.

Re: SUN D1000 disk array with HP9000 K-Series

Hi Leonid, I have used an HP server to run a D1000 which is just a JBOD unit. As Nelson says it has to be connected to a fast wide and that will be either a A2969A HSC FWD controller or 28696a HP-PB version. I am enclosing the link for the user manual

http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/hardware/docs/pdf/805-2624-12.pdf

hope this helps

Re: SUN D1000 disk array with HP9000 K-Series

yes, I have it connected to FWD channel.
As I said earlier, disks visible normally and correctly from the server.
but when I try to create filessystem (or volume, does not matter it starts to reset SCSI permanently on this channel....
Should it be terminated?
As far as I remember, D1000 boxes are autoterminated......

Thanks for reply!

Re: SUN D1000 disk array with HP9000 K-Series

Hi Leonid,
I think you will need a terminator as it is only the Sun boxes that auto-terminate. The standard HP terminator p/no. A1658-62024 is the part you will need. If you look from page 28 in that manual there is a diagram for connections and then a bit further on you have to set some switches on the back to say whether it is single bus or split bus.
hope this gets you a bit further

Re: SUN D1000 disk array with HP9000 K-Series

Thanks , I will try to terminate it.
however, this all looks very strange.
It should not see disks normally on untermionated bus......
Anyway, thanks for the help!

Re: SUN D1000 disk array with HP9000 K-Series

Hi Leonid, did you check the switch setting on the back because if it is set to split bus you may have several drives with the same id which will cause the bus to go bananas! I have just finished my day now so won't be able to carry on with you until tomorrow
cheers

no it is not on split bus mode.
All drives have unique ID.
