Smart 5300 Array & W2K Server alert.
I have a Proliant ML530 with 5340/256 Array controller running W/W2K Svr. I have 5 drives configured for Raid 5. I need to add an aditional drive and extend the existing array. When I use the Compaq utility I get an alert that the function is not supported in W2K. Once I add the drive to the existing array I plan to use Volume manager to extend it. Any ideas why I get the alert? (I hate surprises when performing disk changes).

Re: Smart 5300 Array & W2K Server alert.
This is a typical fenomenon that we see with W2K servers patched before SP3. The warning message is correct i.e. you can loose data doing an online disk expansion. See also Q294244.
Upgrade to SP3 and download the latest ACU or better ACU XE (hp ACU) from http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/15700.html.
With the new ACU&SP3 installed, you shouldn't get any errors.
Rgds,
Gert Luyten.

Re: Smart 5300 Array & W2K Server alert.
I assume your refering to the Array Options ROMPac update (V3.10a). Your link did'nt work so I had to dig. The server has SP3 installed and the array utility is at V2.90a. Is there an update for the utility as well? Thanks for the assist.
