Smart Array 532 and mixing 10k and 15k drives

Hi,

I have RAID1 with two drives 36GB 10k. Drive 0 is broken. Now days they are selling only 15k drive. So does SA-532 support this mixing or am I creating problems?

Thanks,

Jarno

That's possible - in theory.

In real life, however, the faster drive will have to 'wait' for the slower one & the net effect may be that they both run slower than e. g. a couple of 10K drives.

I would purchase 72GB / 10K drive instead - should be still available, price is probably the same & solution would be neater.

Jarno,

Mixing speed of drives is possible, actually people use it, but the best solution is to have both drives at the same speed.

Both drives are going to work at the lowest speed, it means they are going to work at 10k.

Jaime.
