Smart Array 642 sees only 2199 GB on 3 TB logical drive

Hello,

I just installed additional 4 hard drives (1TB each) into our external storage, configured RAID 5 on that external unit and such I have 1 logical drive with 3 TB total. The Storage controller confirms that (It is Heritage unit). After connecting SCSI to available Smart Array 642 on the server I see that ACU shows the available drive with 2199 GB space.
MY question is: why it doesn't see all the space?

Thank you for any responses.

hi eugene,

could you be more precise on this.

how do you configure raid 5 with the external storage? Can we know what is the model of the external storage?

I assume maybe you configure (the external storage is msa500) with raid 5 and you should connect it to SA642.

I maybe wrong here but afaik its only SA 5 series is recommended to be attach to MSA500g1. Only msa500 G2 is supported with sa 6 series.

Re: Smart Array 642 sees only 2199 GB on 3 TB logical drive

Hi Eugene,

The maximum logical drive size on a SmartArray 642 is 2TB, hence what you're seeing...

Hope this helps,

Rob

Khairy and Rob
Thank you very much for help. I guess Rob's answer resolves it. I was thinking myself that but wanted someone to confirm. Got to go for host adapter shopping :)

Regards.
