ACU version 2.9
Firmware: 1.74
Driver Controller: 5.10.84
I have added 2 additional HDD to our Raid 5 array. Both partitions c: & d: are located in 1 logical drive.
I would like to extend the logical drive with the 2 new HDD that we installed. However, when I go to extend the logical drive, an message indicating that it is not supported in Windows 2000. However, I have read where it is supported in Windows 2000 SP 4 which is what we are running?
Has anyone been able to extend the logical drive using Windows 2000 SP4 and 1 logical drive?
Thanks

Re: Smart Array Controller 5300
yes of course, as the pop up says
if you have dynamic disk you will SP3 or later. so It will work.
In case you have basic Disk will work too.
so it won't work if you have dynamic disk and SP2 or W200 with no SP
you I am sure it will work.
I added my own pop up

Re: Smart Array Controller 5300
I almost forgot, for now you know you have OK - Cancel option
so Cancel an update your firmware controller
you have a very old one 3.54 (C) (30 Jan 2008)

so install it and reboot your server and continue with the Extension process
also update your driver kinda old too

Re: Smart Array Controller 5300
Once I extend the logical drive, will windows automatically recognize the additional space? Or do I need to use a 3rd party product?
I only want to expand the data partition which is my d:drive.
Thankss

Solution--So when I update the firmware and driver, I will be able to extend the logical drive?--
This is a good practice which is very important before any activity related with HDDs, having all up to date, you know the latest driver/firmware always work much better
-- Once I extend the logical drive, will windows automatically recognize the additional space? Or do I need to use a 3rd party product? --
yes windows in disk management will show you unallocated space and you can use windows to format that partition and use diskpart to extend your D: partition
diskpart

Re: Smart Array Controller 5300
I am also facing a simular situation where I have 2 logical drives in 2 different arrays running out of diskspace.
I keep the servers up-to-date with the latest Proliant Support Packs and the HP Firmware Maintenance CD's.
Good practice for an action like this.
I already expanded (simular type) disks to the arrays and I am up for a good backup 1st and then extend the logical drives ....
