Smart Array P410i doesn't accept new disks

Hello,

I've got a HP Proliant DL380G6 server with a Smart Array P410i controller.
There are 4 SAS drives in RAID5

Recently the drive in bay3 crashed. We replaced it with a new one.
Within a week this new drive shows:
Physical Drive State: Predictive failure. This physical drive is predicted to fail soon.
It blinks blue/orange.

The strange thing is: New drives are not recognized./ rejected.
So we reinstalled the drive that is predicted to fail.

Is my Raidcontroller defective, or am I having just bad luck with new disks?

Or can it be a firmware issue?
My replacement disks' firmware is HPD5 and all other (good) disks are firmware HPD4

Any advice?

Hi

I'd go with firmware issue.  Although not exactly the same the following advisory looks similar

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c03012502

I would recommend a f/w upgrade as a first course of action.

Thanks

Ok i will try that first .

How safe is it to upgrade firmware?

Will the current disk array still be supported by an upgraded firmware?

Re: Smart Array P410i doesn't accept new disks

Hi

Firmware upgrades are normally safe however I'd read the release notes to make sure there are no special requirements and ensure I have an up to date backup incase the worst should occur.

SPOCK (http://h20272.www2.hp.com/) will list any support requirments

Thanks
