Smart array 642 maxboot

When installing a Smart array 642 I get a question if I want to enable or disable maxboot with option 4 or 8 GB. I need a 16 GB partition is this possible and why this option?

Re: Smart array 642 maxboot

This was for Windows NT. NT has a boot partition limitation that was connected to the 1024th physical cylinder of the installed HD. So when you are using a logical device and not a physical one, like an array, you too are effected by this limitation, but by altering the translation table, a maximum 8GB partition can be made to support NT.
Now Windows 2000 and above do not have this limitation and you CAN put the OS in a partition of 16GB as you wish.
If you are using NT, then we suggest you are dilligent in your installation and install only the OS in the OS partition. Any programs can be installed in another partition, Program Files directory.

Re: Smart array 642 maxboot

I'm using smartstart 7.10 and there is only an option for 4 or 8 GB. Do I need to configure the raid manually to get a bigger boot partition?
