Swap mirrored 2x18GB to 2X36GB on SA5302/64

Hello,

I have 3 mirrored logical disks a SA5302/64 controller.
The first pair consists of 2 x 18GB and contains OS Win2003 on one volume.
I wish to change them to 2 x 36 GB.
Is there an easy way to accomplish this?

Swap one of the drives and let it rebuild. When that is done, swap the other drive. Once the rebuild is complete you will have 18GB of unused space on your logical disk.

I think you will have free space at the end of the disk array, but logical disks are not automatically extended (a good thing).

The "new" 36GB disks are from another old array, so they are not empty. I suppose the controller is smart enough to rebuild from 18GB to 36GB, or is there a risk it will think it has to use the "old" 36GB volume to rebuild?

Not if you do that while the controller has power applied. Doing that while the system is down can lead to losing data - a colleague did that to me :-(

He is still alive as that was a test/demo system and I had a backup ;-)

I'm surprised that Uwe had that problem. If the server is live, then the array controller and the remaining disk should take precedence and overwrite the one that is being inserted.

If this doesn't work then you still have the disk that you pulled. Removing the other two and replacing the original into it's original slot should recover the situation.

I could be wrong so maybe others would like to comment.

No, he swapped disks while the server was powered off.

Migration ended well. Credits give :-) Thanks.
