Swapping 146 GB for 300 GB in EVA5000

Hi

I have a diskgroup with 32 146GB FC drives. In this DG I have 1 2TB LUN created and presented. I want to swap these drives with 32 300GB FC drives without interrupting application running on the presented LUN. I was thinking just adding 8 300GB to the DG and after leveling, removing 8 146GB and so on until done. Will this method work well? It will take some time but that is OK. How much free space do I need in the initial DG to be able to do this?

mixing the disk capacities are allowed but not recommended for the perfomance reasons

you need to have the free space of 8x146GB (ungroup) + 10% of the free capacity (check also the disk protection level, should be at least single disk protection)...

But if I first add 8*300GB I only need how much free space? I vaguely recall needing 2 x the size of the larger disk if mixing sizes in a DG.

There on the page 5 from the doc in my first post, its written that the disk protection level (2 spares) in the mixed capacity DG will contain the double the capacity of the largest disk drive in the DG.

Free space for operations? 5 GigaBytes.

If you don't want to get confusing messages due to insufficient protection space, just set the protection level to NONE until the first 8 disk drives have been brought into the group and leveling has finished.

One point to note while adding a 300 GB disk to the EVA 5000 is to the present VCS version.

Please see that the VCS version is the latest one and if not get the latest version installed from HP
