Swapping Drives From one ProLiant DL360 G3 to another

WE have 2 HP Proliant DL360 G3 servers that are running 2003 Server. One has one processor the other has two. We need to switch the drives from the one to the other without losing information. Can we just swap the drives ? Or should we take the processor out of the one and put in the other ? Note: We are trrying to do this so we can keep both servers running the same applications without reloading.

I doubt whether 2003 kernel would give any error.
But don't see any harm trying it out once.
(Better to have backup first.)

Follow the procedure below:

1. Ensure you have the latest system BIOS.
2. Ensure the Array Controller FW is latest.
3. Ensure the drive firmware is latest.
4. Power off both the server.
5. Remove all the drives from an array at the same time to the destination server.
6. Power on the servers.

Hope this helps, don't forget to assign points:)

Is there an issue here with the system "memorizing" the serial numbers of the drives? I thought I heard someone having this issue when trying to "swap" drives in an effort to not reload all the apps.

You won't have an issue with this. We do this all the time.

Make sure you have the same hardware and you will be ok. If you don't have the same hardware, it will still work as long as you have the latest PSP installed, but it's typically more involved.

Also, don't forget to put the drives back in in the same position: e.g drive 1/0 is put in to slot 1/0 (bus/port).

Hi, I'm also on the same problem... have a bunch of Citrix Servers and when one comes down it would be nice to just take a mirrored disk from another server and be able to plug it in an boot from it (they are all supposed to have exact same configuration...)

If the answers provided did help I would appreciate comment from the person who posted the question in the first place.

Thanx in advance.
