VA7100 Disks

hello

i have just installed a VA7100 disk array / controller on a RP5400, everything is connected up, and there is activity on the cards, but i don't appear to be able to see the disks when i perform an ioscan, do i need to install any extra software or do any basic configuration for the system to see the disks

any help on this would be much appreciated

Re: VA7100 Disks

You cannot see disks, you can only see LUNs.

If there are no LUNs configured, you can't see any.

The management software vor VAs is called commandview sdm. You will need this software to manage the array.

You will need at least a small (~10 to 20 MB) LUN0 to enable your host to find the array.

Go to the software and drivers section of www.hp.com and look fpr "commandview sdm" and you will find the software and the manuals.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: VA7100 Disks

Hi John,

By Connecting the VA7100 to servers only will not show the disks. You have to install the Command View softwate.Create Luns using armcfg command.

1)To launch Command view CUI.Type cvui or in graphics type Launcher

2)U Can secure the lun by entering into the option called secure manager in CV.

IF u don't have command view.U can configure by connecting ur laptop to VA Serial port using vfpcfg Command

Re: VA7100 Disks

thanks for all the responses, however i have discovered another issue that may be causing me the problem, even though all the activity lights are operational, i cant see the array when i perform an ioscan and when i perform an armdiscover the response i get back is:
Failed to obtain remote database interface to host: localhost

and when i perform a armdsp -i the error i get is:
Error logging in: TIMEOUT EXPIRED

can anyone shed any light on this situation

Thanks

Re: VA7100 Disks

John,

Have you checked the settings off your fiber ports?

Are the direct attached to the server or are you passing through a san switch.

If you don't have a connection you must change this settings through the serial port of the VA.

cfg .. (d

Through a san swithc : Fabric attaced
Direct attached : private loop

Re: VA7100 Disks

Regarding the error message from commandview:

This is most likely related to the address configuration Isee link above).

But it could also be related to a kernel parameter setting. I have seen it sometimes with HP-UX 11.11, that swinstall is telling you, the max_thread_proc is only 64. After increasing this value everything is working.

Check the swagent logs for any hint or check the kernel value. Also check for correct name resolution and the commandview setting files mentioned in the link above.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
