Volume Growth affects performance?

Hi, normally we use to grow up virtual disks from our EVA 5000 presented in our Windows 2003 servers. But recently someone from other company told us it wasn't a good practice indeed it could affect in the time the performance and they rather to present a bigger disk and copy the information. Could you please tell me if this is true and why?

Ha! I think "someone from other company" should first explain why this isn't "good practice" and how it "could affect performance".
