What determines the "virtual size" on a Netraid system?

Currently I am experimenting with online capacity expansion for Netware servers.
The method of "how to achieve" online expansion is easy and straight-forward.

My issue now is:
What determines the "virtual size" of a
Raid 5 system visisble to any OS on a single channel.
Why is it 80GB using 8gb disks in one drive cage?
What would it be if I had 6x18GB drives in the drive bay?
In other words....... How is the virtual size calculated?

As far as i know the operating system determines the size.
