Re: Win2003 does not see VDISK's

I added some vdisks the other day and I highlighted more than one to present at the same time. Although CommandView EVA saw the vdisks as presented, the host could not see them.
I unpresented and then presented one at a time and the host could see them straight away....

Re: Win2003 does not see VDISK's

Hi,

When you added the hosts into Command View did you manually enter the WWNs or pick them from the drop down ?

If the former, then that could be a reason for not seeing the Vdisks...

If CommandView select each host in turn, and check that the Vdisks are definitely presented - make sure the LUN numbers look sensible.

Also, can you explain how the fibre is cabled ? Do you have more than one switch ?

I would log onto each switch, and check the output of switchShow just to sanity check that everything is connected correctly.

Cheers,

Rob

Re: Win2003 does not see VDISK's

wwn from dropdown
shitchshow: all ok
no zoning
one switch (2 loops from controller)

Funny thing is that if I run microsoft diskraid it shows the HP HWP (version 4.xxx)and tells me the array is online and running fine !

This means the OS can communicate with the disk because Diskraid needs the HWP (VDS) for communicating with the array.

Only thing I can think of is that the HWP version 4.xxx (automatically installed by the smartstart CD) is not the correct one.
Smartstart tells me it does install version 3.xxx but looks like I got 4.xxxx.

Earlier someone mentioned that I need 3.xxx because the firmeware of yhe controller is 3xxx (active/passive).
Bit confused how this version 4 got on the system .....

LUN numbers are 1,2 and 3 (created 3 VDISK's), but not important for windows I believe.

will look into it tomorrow.

Thanks sofar for the good help. My first EVA (testing this by the way for mass-recording of IP-camera streams, VERY I/O intensive).

Re: Win2003 does not see VDISK's

okeeeee .... some "smart guy" at HP told me to use this smartstart CD, just looked up the support documents: does not support EVA5000 !

So will do it manually (getting an expert in installing/deinstalling).

Keep you posted.

Re: Win2003 does not see VDISK's

First I am going to pull somes ear at HP !
Secondly I will pull my own ear, because of not reading all the doc's !

After installing the correct versions: worked.

Then upgrade the controller to version 4.xxx
Installed the correct VDS software: WORKING

MPIO: do I need to install this as well ?

Re: Win2003 does not see VDISK's

Windows 2003 sees the VDISK but is is unreadable. Can not format the disk.

Re: Win2003 does not see VDISK's

Even on a current Windows system it is sometimes a good idea to do a reboot.
