XP Data migration.

Hi,
Thanks in advance.

XP1024 to XP12000 Migration . Any HP tool enables the replication of entire data to new storage without any problem. Is there any HP recommneded tool for this .

Any success of using CA ?

Re: XP Data migration.

CA will be the best solution for your case but considering future usage of XP1024 and that too without system application outage, you may use "External Storage" software too.

Flex copy is another great software if you have more HP Storage solution to migrate from.

Re: XP Data migration.

What is your OS?

Consider to use mirroring, for HP-UX use LVM.

Hope this helps!

Re: XP Data migration.

I migrated storage from a Xiotech storage array to an EVA 5000 using LVM mirrors. I also migrated data from some old 12h and internal disks to a XP12000 the same way. It is a cheaper alternative to CA.

Rob...
IF you do it more than twice, write a script.

Re: XP Data migration.

Consider to mirror your data from the old to the new XP using LVM.
Once this is done, reduce the mirror on the old XP.

Hope this helps!

Re: XP Data migration.

I am not sure how big is your SAN. but I used a tool called rsync. it works great and you can have multiple streams to reduce the copy time.

Re: XP Data migration.

Thanks..

I am planning to use the LVM mirroring .
Let me clarify one more thing ,how fast will be if I create PVG file for the volume groups ? any advantage over this?

Re: XP Data migration.

LVM mirror for HPUX is host based mirroring solution for which you will need the LVM license on the host you are migrating the volumes. Great advantage of LVM mirror is that it is online migration, no outage but a slight overloading on server and kind of throttling over the SAN resources. Search in this forum and you will find enough people talking about it.

If you are concern with creation of new volumes (mirrored LVOLs) then it is very fast and an offline process. What takes time is the mirroring between two volumes (which means host will be accessing data from old storage volume and will be copying over to the new storage volume, within the same VG)

Hope this helps
