XP External Storage on OVMS

Hi,
Is there a way of using the OS ID assigned to an EVA VDisk when the VDisk has been externalised to an XP24K?

Thanks,
Declan

Re: XP External Storage on OVMS

Declan,

What I understood from your question is that you want to use the EVA Vdisk OS ID like feature via XP24k on OpenVMS host.

If so, then you can't use the EVA OS ID to pass through the XP, because XP accepts the EVA disks as a pool and then present them (either in full or part of it) to hosts via it's own presentation schema. XP also uses the LUN ID for each individual LDEV presentation and OVMS will be able to resolve it as OS ID.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
This will pose a considerable problem for us as all of the scripts and utilites address the LUNS using the OS ID.

Re: XP External Storage on OVMS

Can the XP array use an arbitrary unit number per presented lun, or is it like the EMC arrays with a stupid unit ID that is derived from the underlying structure of the storage containers comprising the LUN?

If so, are there any convincing arguments that presenting EVA storage via an XP array is not a giant step backwards in terms of manageability?
Can you imagine if we used PCs to manage our enterprise systems? ... oops.
