XP512 Array Groups - Size

We have an XP512 and I'm about to order an array group. Is the 73 GB array group actually 73 GB in size or does it have 4 73 GB disks in it?

It has 4 drives.

Re: XP512 Array Groups - Size

Disk are always sold in groups of 4 drives, called array groups or marketing groups.

Hope this helps,

Re: XP512 Array Groups - Size

I know it has 4 drives, but are they each 73 GB or does the total size for the array group (4 x X) equal 73 GB?

Re: XP512 Array Groups - Size

They're each 73GB so the total size for the array group would be 4 x 73GB.

Re: XP512 Array Groups - Size

You will not get 4 x 73GB usable space. The usable space depends on which Raid you choose, 1 or 5, and the emulation you choose. The emulation is how the drives are partitioned. I can't find my chart right now, but as an example, if you had 47GB drives, choose Raid-5 and Open-8 emulation you would get 19 LDEVs, each about 7GB in size for a total usable space of around 130GB.
The are more emulations available now than the chart I have shows so check with HP and they can give you the current information.
Raid-5 will give you more usable space.
