add new hard drive, and raid 1 to compaq ml350 G3

Hi all,

i have a compaq ml350 G3 server with three
hard drives. Two of them are configured as a
raid 1 mirror for the DB data, and the last one (alone) supports the OS.

I want to add an additional disk to configure
a raid 1 mirror with the third drive.

what do you recommend? can i use the ACU to do this? should i add the disk with power off?

the question is...

when i try to upgrade the logical volume X from raid level 0 to raid level 1 with ACU i don't have the option to choose raid 1, only the raid 0. Why? what should i do?

Hi.
If your server support RAID 0. Just insert the new disk. It will automaticaly mirror to the new disk. Because in your server, it support hardware mirror.

Try doing this Offline instead of Online. You should be able to add a disk and have the option to add it to an existing array that can accept expansion.

The server will not automatically mirror the disk when you add it. Which version of ACU are you using? Use 7.16.2.0 of the ACU.

First, highlight your Array which you want to migrate with the new unassigned hdd already installed.
Next under tasks choose expand array on right hand side.
Next select your unassigned hdd to add to your array and click ok
Choose Create logical drive and now you will have the choice of Raid 0 or Raid 1.
(I Just ran through these steps so I know its current)

I've upgraded ACU from version 7.0.1.0 to 7.16.2.0 as you said, and i've run through
the steps you told me, except for the last one, where i choose migrate raid/stripe size.

Did you see the option to choose your fault tolerance when you chose the option to create logical drive? Fault tolerance should default to Raid 1+0 and the other choice would be 0.

Do you see the Fault tolerance option, also listed on the same menu is stripe size and LD size.

i've seen it. I choose the Raid 1+0, and it's now migrating to raid 1+0.
