adding disk cabinet to MSA2012i
Hello,
Can I add an extra (second) disk cabinet to a MSA2012i (dual controller) without shutting down the entire MSA?
Regards,
Bart

Re: adding disk cabinet to MSA2012i
hi,
No. Msa 2000 series until firmware J210P23 (and previous) needs controllers to be turned off before adding an additional enclosure.

Re: adding disk cabinet to MSA2012i
Thanks for your answer...
I will plan a firmware upgrade for the same moment we will add the disk enclosure.
Regards, Bart

Re: adding disk cabinet to MSA2012i
There are a lot of new firmwares available in web. for SAS drives, SATA drives & drive enclosures as well.
since a downtime is planned, it is recommended that all of them are updated. Few points to look
1) disk enclosure/io module, disk frimware update is strictly offline
2) perform disk firmware update with one controller shutdown.
3) cabling is important in G1 for failover. Please refer the reference guide for failovers. it is recommended that port A1,B1 connect to one switch in one subnet & port A2,B2 is on other switch other subnet.
