extend limit on RAID 5, MSA30

I have MSA30. 8 hard disks x 300GB configured as RAID5. total storage is 2TB.
I've got 6 new 300GB disks to increase the capacity. I've inserted the new disks and expanded the array.when I pressed extend size, it showed me the current size = 2002684MB and below that 2097151MB MAX. why I'm limited to that.
How can Extend the volume to get the 3.8TB as one volume???

Re: extend limit on RAID 5, MSA30

Hello,

a logical drive can't be bigger then 2 TB. So you need to create a second logical drive and span it with OS tools to one volume.

Re: extend limit on RAID 5, MSA30

Hi,

I'm confused a bit.
I sopke to local support. they said that I can't expand the volume to make it bigger than 2TB (which matches what you said) but that I can do a backup, delete the RAID, then create a new one containing the 14 disks. in this case it will appear as one logical drive which will be almost 3.8TB.

why this can't happen in expanding but it is possible if to create the RAIS from scratch.

I appreciate your help.

Re: extend limit on RAID 5, MSA30

Hello,

the limitation also applies to such a configuration. You will have an array with 3,8 TB of free space, but you won't be able to create a logical drive with more then 2 TB.
