how to change all 12 disks from 18GB to 36GB of AutoRaid 12H

we manage to change all 12 disks from 18GB to 36GB of AutoRaid 12H. However the array does not recognize the new disks while we plug in them. Some one tall us should upgrade microcode of contolers first.Is that true or because of other reasons? any suggestion will be appreciated.
