Re: how to configure raid5 with hot spare for MSA 30 in HP-UX server

First of all you need to tell what controller you have (e.g. an smartarray).

Do

# ioscan -fn

and look for a /dev/ciss_ device.

The use

# saconfig /dev/ciss_

# sautil /dev/ciss_

and post the results to give us more details.

Hope this helps!

Re: how to configure raid5 with hot spare for MSA 30 in HP-UX server

First I would pull the bad disk (ID 1).

This bad disk probably block the entire bus.

A single failed disk should never turn a RAID 5 into failed.

Does anything change?

Does the spare kick in?

Please come back once the disk is replaced and the RAID is still failed.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: how to configure raid5 with hot spare for MSA 30 in HP-UX server

Your data is showing 5 disks in this MSA30 - 4 in RAID5 plus 1 spare.

Disk with ID 1 is faulty, disk with IDs 0,2,3,4 are alive.

Any other failed drive?

Please pull disk with ID1 and post the

sautil/saconfig

again after this.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: how to configure raid5 with hot spare for MSA 30 in HP-UX server

By the way - don't forget to replace the batteries:

Battery Pack Count.................. 2
Battery Status (pack #1)............ FAILED
Battery Status (pack #2)............ FAILED

You are working without write cache!

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: how to configure raid5 with hot spare for MSA 30 in HP-UX server

yes dear id1 is empty becasue it is failed.

as well as id3 is also failed. it indicating orange led.

so my raid has crashed.

Thanx a lot for your valuable reply..

Re: how to configure raid5 with hot spare for MSA 30 in HP-UX server

The battries are directly mounted on the smartarray controller card.

Get them replaced!

Disk 3 looks good in your logs.

However, replace all the bad disks and post the

saconfig/sautil

after you inserted the new drives.

Even if the drive is still failed, it is possible to activate it again (with no valid data), create a new file system on the RAID and restore your backup.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: how to configure raid5 with hot spare for MSA 30 in HP-UX server

After inserting the new drive, do

# sautil /dev/ciss4 accept _media _xchg 0

this should toggle the logical drive 0 online again.

After this, check again with sautil/saconfig.

You should now see the device CLAIMED in ioscan again.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
